Hey Don, the monoliths are a reference to “2001, a Space Odyssey” from way, way, way back when I was a kid. The monoliths were from an alien civilization guiding us to become the stars, or something like that.
Brilliant! I love the humor in all ur drawings,and this particular cartoon has instantly became one of my favorites!! (and speaking of favorites, what would “ze Freuds” say in front of the monolyths?!)
Doug I must say that you have inspired me… to look up and read the plotlines of 2001, 2010, 2061, and 3001 odysseys on wikipedia, which I must say was more enjoyable than watching the first 30 minutes of the movie. Now I know what monoliths are, and you’re right, they are more problematic than tribbles… If you’ll excuse I must go to youtube to watch the stargate scene…
