   Wow ! That car made the 500 miles of Indianapolis in less than 100 miles.

   And then the engine broke.

   As a nerd, I’m forced to point out that parsecs are distance, NOT time.
   The “sec” actually refers to an arcsecond, one sixtieth of a sixtieth of a degree.

   Well in George Lucas’s Defense, the Kessel run was supposed to be a treacherous laberinth of sorts, so whe he said the millenium falcon made it only 12 parsecs, it meant he did it through the most difficult and shortest portion of it… (not something I know for a fact, just something I read somewhere :P)

   It’s a bait-and-switch meta-joke! I was expecting the alien to correct the time/distance thing, then I get this! ROTFLMAO. Great comic today, one of the best I’ve seen.

    So… not to sound too nerdy or anything… but GL Fan is right. Supposedly the Kessel Run is through an uberdangerous section of the galaxy. You can either take the long (and safe) way ’round, or cut the straightest (and least safe) line through a treacherous maze of black holes and unstable stars and whatnot. Since it decreases distance, it does decrease speed; but the point Han’s trying to make is that he’s skilled enough to make the run in a relatively straight line without getting sucked in or blown up.

    If you don’t want to get sucked by black holes you have to be really quick to avoid the gravity. Quicker ship -> Shorter route. So Han IS referring to the speed of his ship.

    I’m not a Star Wars geek and found these informations in relevant forums.

    Anyway, if anybody saw Star Wars episodes 4-6….did you notice that Han Solo is pretty proud of the SPEED of the Millenium Falcon?

    Well, it’s a funny cartoon with a pun on the whole parsecs thing. So why I bother?

    @Heather: Yes, that was written in retrospect, by someone who actually knew what a parsec was, after the movie came out.

    maybe Han got his terms mixed up in a moment of bigshot-talking. though it seems logical enough to me that he’s referring to his speed via dangerous route travelling via distance.

    Aw c’mon, the Kessel Run can’t be done in under 47, everybody knows that.the world record made 34, but that was “lightyears” ago.
