Hehe so true! (Does this mean you’re thinking about the author photo for your own book, hmm?)

  2. Luwano says:

    Interesting question lisa.

I guess Doug will use the picture from the “About”-section or something similar for his book.

    Any book news yet, Doug?

    &=^

  3. michelle says:

I think Doug will go for the pimp cane. Which is going to look pretty silly with the plaid shirt, but what can you do?

  4. Seraphine says:

definitely, since it looks nothing like the author, i’d choose the glam shot.
unless it is a children’s book, then i’d do the candid shot. children can see the truth anyway.

  5. Dee says:

What about the Shel Silverstein “scare the little kids” look?

  6. Aud says:

The hand-on-chin looks more like a “finger” scratching the chin thoughtfully.

    HA! Love the candid shot.

  7. Radu says:

Doug will go for the candid shot for sure ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ Probably taken on a monday or somtehing ๐Ÿ˜›

  8. Doug says:

Heheh maybe I should try all five of these and let everybody vote.

    @Michelle, you’re right – clearly i need a plaid pimp cane!

@Luwano, not much new to report on the book yet, although it looks like it’s going to be mostly new cartoons!

I think I’ve tried one of each of those for my various books! They all mutated into disturbingly candid, seeing as I’m naturally eccentric.

  10. PTTG says:

I think Terry Pratchet’s done all of those… though when he had the hat, he definitely fell into #5.

If you want my opinion, go for #1, with the cane.

  11. Daniel says:

Of course, the last one refers to the author photo of Robert Jordan, including the pimp-cane. What he was going for on that photo is beyond me. Excentric, is the word. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Jarett says:

Ha! That eccentric one looks mysteriously like Dan Piraro!

  13. DarkWidow says:

This one really made me laugh (not that I don’t love all your other works!) and stuck with me as I indeed couldn’t think of a single author pose that wouldn’t fit into that pattern.
Funny enough, I just got asked to submit an “author shot” of myself the other day and I kept worrying about which cliche I’m going to inevitably fall under. Turns out the best “outside the box” idea I could come up with was to just crop a close up of a picture I took when I was vacationing this summer. Obviously, I just ended up being the second savage chicken ๐Ÿ™
