  2. Elaine says:

I am absolutely scared of spiders and if I watch a horror film I could be awake for nights!!
this so sums up my fear!!

  3. Bo Lumpkin says:

    No such thing…yeah right!!!!!

  4. dawn petersen says:

The real monsters are always the worst; like milktoast boss or psycho roommate. 🙂

  5. Tami says:

Ha ha Mom! Now you’re scared too!

  6. Joshua says:

That was great. Never had many imaginary monsters as horrible as that though.

  7. Nicole says:

Oh, I “only” had Vampires and giant spiders… how lame was I? (And yes, I had real Vampires, not girlie-sparkly ones! *g*)

  8. Ill Bill says:

If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions.

  9. Don says:

    Sorry, but I don’t get it. 🙁

  10. Doug says:

For @Don and anybody else who doesn’t quite get this one, the last panel is the Parent Chicken. I tried to make the beds look different, but I guess sometimes my chickens look very much alike!

  11. Tom says:

Not to worry, I’m sure the bogey man will keep that monster away.

  12. Felipe Magno de Almeida says:

    Re: Doug

    Now I get it !!

  13. Andrew Clunn says:

Oh I thought the implication was that that specific monster didn’t exist, implying that others did. Thanks for clarifying.

  14. Niri Tacen says:

@Doug – for a moment there I thought it was the little chicken, who’d suddenly had his belief in the evil green monster destroyed. You know – like if the parent had told him Santa Claus didn’t exist.

  15. Ted says:

Since it said “wears your empty carcass as a little hat” I was totally thinking the little chicken was already dead, emptied, and being worn as a hat puppet by the monster.

  16. Kathy says:

Of course!! Thanks Doug – I thought the stripes had been scared off the bed (or maybe the “stripes” were actually the claws of the monster??) but now I get it – perhaps your parent chicken should have more wrinkles, or wear glasses, or a nightcap or… or…

  17. Maju says:

Ohhh NOW I get it!! I thought the last panel was a close up…

  18. Doug says:

These comments are awesome. So creative! I should post vague punchlines more often 😉

  19. willwot says:

Little chicken’s fears remind me of Milo’s closet in Bloom County. Hopefully nothing like some of those appear for real again. And some of them did appear as real and were a very important commentary for the 80’s and 90’s. Now that the 10’s are here we have chicken’s coming out of the closet or is that rooster, or hen; or green, scaly, long clawed, disemboweling, little chicken carcass hatted monsters. Sweet Dreams are made of these…..

  20. Daniel says:

Thought it was a close up too until I’ve read the comments. Maybe it would’ve worked better if the last panel was mirrored or something. 🙂 Love it though.

  21. Blizno says:

How about if either the kid or the parent was wearing a nightcap in all of the frames?

  22. Eddy says:

Ooooh. Got it now. Very funny now that my brain caught up.

  23. FarmWife says:

It took me a second, but I finally realized the last frame was the parent. He had a more grown up bed. 😛

I love how specific the kid’s description of the monster was. Mine were always vague things that would grab your ankles as you lunged across the bedroom to get to the safety of the mattess top.

  24. camperdave says:

I didn’t get this cartoon until it was mentioned that the last panel showed the parent chicken. Many people have suggested how better to portray this, so here’s mine: Draw the bed at the opposite angle. The child’s bed goes from top right to bottom left, so draw the parent’s bed from top left to bottom right. Not only would this make it more visually apparent, but it would also have the parent chicken’s head on the left half of the frame, just like the other panels.
