Because I don’t really know much about wine, I actually researched these comics more than usual. For the previous comic, I discovered that the Pinot Noir was a good pairing with salmon because it is fairly light for a red, and has smoky, earthy notes that complement the salmon nicely.
For today’s comic, it was a little more difficult to find a sensible wine pairing, but I did learn that a Syrah was probably the best choice, because it has some nice fruity blackberry notes that would go well with your porridge, especially if you’ve tossed a few raisins in there. (However, the Syrah can be a little spicy. If you like your porridge a bit more on the bland side, a Cabernet Sauvignon might be a safer bet.)
Sometimes I put way more thought into a comic than I probably need to! But I thought it would be funny if a sommelier somewhere read this and thought “What the -? How did he know that?!” 🙂
