I’m not sure about the “much higher” bit. Skydivers often jump from about 10,000 feet. That’s less than half the height of Everest. (Both measured from sea level.)
As an avid year round hiker (which at times takes snowshoes and ice axes), I like the ground firmly underfoot and being amidst the happy trees. I haven’t yet reached boredom.
