A year or so back I did an survey of the nightly news. It starts with a ‘hard news’ segment lasting about 7 minutes. The remainder is Ad – Soft news item (1) – ad – – ending with something scraped off the web. Total real news was well under 10 minutes.
Add to this that there is very little that is presented that I can do anything about. ‘Death in ‘. ??? Feel bad ??? ‘Floods, famine, fire in More feel bad???? ‘Major storms affect millions’. I already know who I’m voting for. I already know what I’m doing to affect . Screw it. News isn’t any use at all. I’ll touch base intermittently to see if there’s anything I need to be aware of but otherwise I’m off doing things that make a diffierence
Boy do I ever know this one! Do I watch to learn things or watch and eat Tums?
Sadly, I can’t bring myself to completely go dark from the news. The moments are rare, but occasionally the news does impact me and mine locally. City council about to do something that a citizen needs to react to. Or a natural hazard is bearing down and it’s time to prep.
But 93% of the time, it’s the darkest misery I am powerless to affect or ridiculous drivel about a celebrity.
My “solution” is to subscribe to a news e-letter and just skim the headlines.
Have you tried just reading local news sites? I find that any “big” world news filters through to me anyway by word of mouth.
