Considering the amount of power AI consumes and that AI will probably try to conserve itself, the outcome might be that since living organisms are the only entities that have a problem with climate change, disinfect the planet – problem solved.
(Disinfecting the planet from all organic life has been suggested as solution to cancer, other diseases, suffering, and death in “That Hideous Strength” by C. S. Lewis)
(Btw, I’d recommend the first two thirds of that novel to understand how the Nazi regime could raise in Germany. – After Merlin – the one from the Arthurian legend – appears, the novel plunges rapidly into kitsch, imho.)
I read a comment claiming that climate change was just a symptom of a different problem. (Might have been an internet troll.)
But in the same direction, AI (or whichever Powerful Entity concerned) might conclude that having too many humans, or having too many humans do things, is the greater underlying problem and try to solve that instead.
It’s clearing the forest so no trees can fall, rather than clearing the forest no nobody can hear trees fall.
(Note this is distinct from the infinite paperclips scenario where AI clears out the forest to make steel trees)
