@brent: I remember there being two games, both “chutes and ladders” and “snakes and ladders”, which were exactly the same as far as gameplay goes. I never could figure out why they needed different names and boards for the same exact game.

@brent & Justin: some kids are afraid of snakes, so some genius came up with a new way of selling the same game without giving kids nightmares.
That said, I suppose some other kids might be afraid of chutes, too. And Heaven help the kid who suffers from snakochutophobia…
