German edition of Savage Chickens bookExciting news, especially for German readers! A German-language edition of Savage Chickens: A Survival Kit for Life in the Coop is being published in March 2012 by publisher Kunstmann. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover! I just finished the artwork for a few replacement cartoons (some of my pop-culture references didn’t quite translate into German). I’ve seen some of the translated cartoons and they look awesome!

Of course, the English version is already available now, so keep it in mind for your upcoming Christmas lists, especially for those office gift exchanges!

Here’s the book over on Kunstmann’s site and now you can take a peek inside!

Update: And now it’s on Amazon.de!

Ach, ich wollten das deutsche Klassenzimmer! Ja, ja!

Good news indeed! Bürohühner seems like a pretty lame translation though. 🙁

Will buy it once it hits the stores, of course.

\O/ I hope the jokes don’t get too washed out in german… but maybe its even funnier ;P

but march 12 .. long way to go.

I must say that I’ve got mixed feelings about this. As a long time German follower of your cartoons I’m glad that the chickens will get more attention over here with the publishing of the book. 🙂 On the other hand, as it’s often the case with “comedy”, I’m afraid that many of the cartoons won’t really work in translation. But we’ll see… 🙂 Anyway, good luck and I hope it takes over the bestseller lists!!

As an English/German Canadian I am wondering why they translated Savage Chickens into Buro Huhner which esentially means ‘Office Chickens’. Did they do that just becase of the office cubicles? This ain’t no Dilbert! Anyhow, I think a better translation would have been ‘Wilde Huhner’ which is basically wild chickens. Just a observation… Rock on Doug Wilde! 🙂

Might wanna tell us what comics you had to redo?

The title is Office Chickens. I was worried they had translated your last name literally, but that would have been “Wilden Hühner.”

  8. Doug says:

Yes, it’s true – “Wilde Hühner” would be a more direct translation, but “Büro Hühner” also makes sense because the book focuses on work-related jokes. But I will definitely pass along your feedback, so let me know if you have any other ideas!

Way to go Doug!! I am really happy for you!

  10. Luwano says:

I am sure they didn’t pick “Wilde Hühner” because there is a well-known youth book series with that name already. So it’s good they didn’t simply translate it word by word.

I think sticking with the original english name would be best. They didn’t translate Snoopy to “Schnüffeli” either. Many german publishers are afraid of english titles
though. Or something like “Savage’s wilde Hühner” (= Savage’s wild chickens). Savage and wild usually both translate to “wild” in german by the way.

Either way, glad to see you are going International Doug. German today, Dutch tomorrow, French the next day… Chickens will rule the World!

    Congrats Doug!

Oh, and in Russia, you don’t read Chickens, Chickens read YOU!
