Shouldn’t that be spelled “aboot” not “about”?

  2. Hmmm, the Canadian Godzilla is very similar to the British Godzilla.

The correct spelling of course is “aboot”.

I love the inclusion of a chicken in the drawing. It’s the sort of detail that multiplies the “funny” factor by 10

    Congrats to you canadians.

Shouldn’t that be, “Sorry aboot that”? ๐Ÿ˜€

Ha! I actually did think about spelling it “aboot”, but I’ve never really understood that whole “aboot” thing. To my ears, it sounds more like we’re saying “a boat” than “aboot”.

Of course, there are all sorts of regional differences. People here in Vancouver make fun of the way I say “car” – apparently I say it in a very east-coast way! Carrrrr ๐Ÿ™‚

Wikipedia has the “about” thing as the most recognizable feature of Canadian English, the Canadian raising. A while ago, I looked for CE in the dictionary world to find that it is “underdescribed” (not my words). So there’s no project like the Oxford English Dictionary and so on. Would be great, though, because as a non-native I’d love to be able to practise CE accents along with the rest.

    Ciao

I almost expected to see maple leaf shaped spines (or plates or whatever you want to call them) on his back.

I showed this to a friend of mine who’s from Canada and she thought it was about the funniest thing she’s ever seen. She hangs it up at work to either A) make her less home sick or B)remind herself how funny/cool/awesome I am. Thanks, Doug!
