Aww, come on, that’s not marketing, that’s a stereotypical car salesperson! Marketing works behind the scenes to make it possible for shiny salespeople to do their jobs… and marketing is also the first department to be chopped when sales dip…
By all means, make fun of everything and everyone, but please try to avoid adding to the false perception people have of my industry! 🙂
Ah sorry Andy! In the last decade, I have probably made fun of marketing more than any other occupation in the world. Why? Personal experience. I’ve worked with some amazingly incompetent marketing people over the years. Lucky me!
But I’m happy to report that I’ve met some extremely competent and wonderful marketing people too, especially in the comics and publishing world. These are people who truly believe in the things that they are promoting. So thankfully there are good marketers out there too! 🙂

Very true. The more people I meet, the more I realize that competence and incompetence run rampant… everywhere…
Maybe at my next interview I’ll wear a garland instead of a scarf? 😛
