Finnish edition of Savage Chickens bookA Finnish-language edition of Savage Chickens: A Survival Kit for Life in the Coop is now available! Translated and published by Gummerus, you can buy it at fine bookstores all over Finland, or buy it online.

Can’t speak Finnish? Then get the English version! Or wait for the German edition, which comes out in a couple of weeks. It’s very exciting for me to see my book in different languages, and as an added bonus the translated covers are teaching me how to say “Augh!” in different languages. I’ll be sure to post some photos as soon as I get my copies of the translated editions.

Update: Here’s a larger picture of the cover.

This is totally nitpicking, but I *am* Finnish, and I think “Auts!” is a bad translation for “Augh!”. It’s more akin to “Ouch!”.

    I’ll get my coat.

Wow, is that the first translation of the book? I’m Fnnish and I didn’t know anyone in Finland who read Savage Chickens beside myself 😀 . I always promote it to my friends and they always love the strips I post, but no one has become a regular, which is a pity.

Btw, the title of the Finnish version is “Office Chickens” 🙂

    • Doug says:

The Finnish translation is the first to be released but a German version will be out soon. The German title also translates to “Office Chickens” (the different title was chosen to reflect the work-related content of the book). Thanks for sharing my work with your friends – I hope they like the translated cartoons! 🙂

Any chance of a Danish translation?
(I might even be able to help you there, I have done quite a bit of writing, and I am bilingual due to my half-Danish half-English origin) This must be spread to all countries!

  4. Johanna says:

I love the chickens, have done for years now. SO impressed to see that the first translated edition will be in my native language.

    Thank you Mr Savage! 🙂

  5. InvisiTech says:

Congrats! But starting the series of translations at the “Finnish”??? Only on Savage Chickens!

    Hi Doug!

    Congrats on your international publication!!

Now, when I saw that your link to Gummerus was to a page written in Finnish, my first reaction was to Google Translate it and see what they had to say about your book. (Knowing that Google’s translation engine is always a crap shoot (and a guaranteed giggle), I couldn’t help myself and wanted to see how it read in English: http://bit.ly/Gummerus .)

Well, I had no idea that you “began forcing the tendon sheaths” back in the day and that your book, “Retail Chickens” (according to Google), triggers “the laughter of dust-covered excelinpyörittäjästä”! 🙂

BTW, I am a recent reader of your blog (about 2 months now) and have thoroughly enjoyed the daily strips (I’ve even made your site one of my 2 home pages!).

Cheers from Montreal … and thanks for the fowl humor!!

    • Doug says:

well, as I always say, if you can’t make dust-covered excelinpyörittäjästä laugh, then you aren’t really trying! 😉

  7. Carol Alfaro says:

    Hi Doug.
Do you have anything translated in other languages? I’m a Brazilian Portuguese translator and I wonder if you published anything in Portuguese or would be interested in doing so.
Personally, I can’t start my day without my daily chicken fix!
    Cheers,
    Carol.

    • Doug says:

Hi Carol! I know there was a Brazilian publisher interested in translating the book, but I don’t think anything’s been worked out yet – I’ll keep you posted. I’d love to see a Portuguese edition!

  8. Cheryl says:

So when is the poster of how to say “Augh!” in every language known to mankind?

  9. Justiina says:

wow, there’s a finnish version? cool, i am finnish and have been reading these for some time now!

  10. ccboak says:

When will the Klingon version be released?

  11. Lauri says:

Amaizing! I’ve also been following the Chickens for quite a while now and always wondered if other finnish knew of this genious post-it art. And the first translation in finnish, grand stuff sir!

  12. Just another Finn says:

I had to read the post 3 times before I realized it wasn’t a joke 🙂 My native language, well it’s not far fetched as finns tend to have a dark sense of humour.

Been reading Savage Chickens for 2-3 years and I will buy it. Finland has a booming culture in cartoons now. I reckon Doug could google “Viivi & Wagner” and “Fingerpori”. Very popular here and not so different to Savage Chickens.
