Time for my annual chicken vacation (I’ll be back with new comics on January 2!) but before I go, here are the most popular chicken comics of 2024, and a bunch of my personal favourites. And here’s my standard class photo of all the characters who appeared in more than one Savage Chickens comic this year.
It’s been a fun year! I drew a theme week about snakes with moustaches. And another one about a piece of driftwood and a seagull. I reached the crazy milestone of 5000 comics. I finished my fifth Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy book, Spidermania (in stores April 15!). And I somehow overcame my lifelong fear of spiders!

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to you!
Before I take my usual chicken holiday (I’ll be back with new comics on January 2!), here’s my annual class photo of all the characters that appeared in more than one Savage Chickens comic in 2022 (my 18th year of making comics!). Including unexpected new characters Inflatable Tube Man, Mosquito-Man, and Gas Station Hot Dog.
This year felt like a year of sneaking out of the COVID shadows to get involved in the real world again. The Vancouver Comic Jam started meeting in person again. I started going to conventions again. I got involved in a cool collaborative project at the local university, using comics to tell stories about migration. And I just started work on book #5 of the Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy series! I’m looking forward to what 2023 brings!
In the meantime, here are the most popular Savage Chickens comics of 2022!

Before I take my customary holiday from chickening (I’ll be back on January 3!), let’s look back at the crazy year of 2021! Here’s my annual “class photo” of all of the characters who appeared in more than one comic this year.
This year was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for me because my mom passed away after a long fight with cancer. I drew a rare series of autobiographical comics as a tribute to her, and I was overwhelmed by the incredibly supportive comments and emails I received about these comics. Thank you all for being so awesome!
On the happier side of things, I released my newest book a few weeks ago: Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy: As The Deer Flies. This is how I spent much of my early pandemic, and it really helped to be able to throw myself into this fun creative project. I’m really happy to hear that people are enjoying it!
Here’s hoping 2022 brings more adventures and less pandemic! In the meantime, read the most popular Savage Chickens comics of 2021…
