Congratulations on nine years of cartooning. Here’s to many more years to come. Picking one favourite cartoon from last year is tough, but one of my favourites from last year has to be: What To Do When You See A Bear.

  2. JimBox iii says:

I’ve not been reading for long, but SC had become a firm favourite in my rss feed! Congrats on 9 years, wish I’d found you sooner.

I love any of the cat ones, personal favourite was how to train your cat 4.

  3. Cláudio Shikida says:

Congratulations! Well, my favorite is the “pie chart”. Love these chickens and cats (and robots…which reminds me of the old ‘science theater 3000’ show). Thanks for sharing your humor with us.

  4. David Powell says:

My favorite is Life In 8 Easy Steps. I have it on the wall in my cubicle!

  5. Antonio says:

    Hey Doug, congratulations!

Thanks for letting us take part in Savage Chickens. You’ll have to go on for a couple of years more, I haven’t won anything yet! 😉 Just kidding, my birthday cartoon “Coffee Substitutes” was great, what do I need to win anything more after that! 🙂

Even though the moment has passed, my favourite cartoon last year was “Work, the Horror Movie”:

  6. Andrea Speed says:

Yes, congrats on making it to the ninth anniversary! Isn’t that the wrist support one? Either that, or it’s paper.

It’s really hard for me to choose a favorite, since I love that horrifying cake/pie/fish shooter one, and anything with Godzilla, but this Canadian superhero one is just near and dear to my heart. https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/07/canadian-superheroes.html

  7. Lisa S. says:

    Kirk vs. Gorn #1
because it was funny and dedicated to me 🙂

Thank you for another year! My daily “Savage Chickens” fix is always the first order of business when I sit down at my computer in the morning. I especially appreciate your literary cartoons, which I enjoy sharing with my English students. 10. Laurie Mair says:

Congrats on 9 great chickenfull years! Picking one cartoon…. Well, as Max S. said, that’s really hard. I’d have to choose….. Sounds of the Waterfall.

  19. Ann says:

Congratulations!!! I can’t wait to see what else your brain has in store. As a matter of fact, all of my co-workers believe you live in our brains, or spy on us, because our most favourite cartoons are the Prod3000 ones. The ultimate one we love is “Still”…especially the AAAUUGH part. It’s so relevant to our office situation right now! :o)

Cat from outer space of course! Well done for all the cartooning over the years. They’ve certainly brightened up my day.

    Good job on nine years!

  22. Julia Langdal says:

Thank you for nine years of amazing and hilarious comics! It’s dangerous to open the daily email at work, as my office-mates wonder at the random giggling coming from my office. My favorite from the last year is probably Under Attack, as it combines cats with pirates – a winning combination.
    Thank you!!

  23. Darlene Coolong says:

There are too many to choose just one! I really enjoy the Stress Levels cartoon because it strikes a very personal chord with me. I write report all day long and this is just a sad reminder of my life… a couple of my all time favorites are Conflicted and Linguistics Lesson.

  28. Erin Leland says:

Congrats, Doug! You know we just love your stuff! 🙂 I have to say, I have laughed so hard at so many of these, it’s really really hard hard to choose! AHHH! But… I’ve always been super fond of how to train your cat, especially the 4th one. 🙂

  29. Dæhrk says:

My favourite is Performance Review. I can fully relate to that chicken!

  30. Jess says:

Nine years is awesome! Congrats. Of the few things a former coworker and I had in common, I’m glad it was love for humor as she introduced me to your comics.

I especially loved Be an Artist, Still, but Performance Review was it — TOTALLY summed up my past year to a T!

9 years of Chickens! Congrats!!! Well, I must be biased because I love the Cat From Outer Space, my birthday cartoon. That’s was the best present EVER!!

Congratulations on nine years of great work! I’ve been a fan almost from the beginning.

    https://www.savagechickens.com/2006/03/explosion.html

    Thanks for making me laugh!

  37. Eleth says:

The best comic was the one with pressing Esc you could really escape to beach. It’s great because I use a program at work where Esc cancels any command and I press it practically all the time 🙂 I wish one time it will work…

  38. Koppany says:

Hi. My favourite comic is the Catnip Mouse 🙂 https://www.savagechickens.com/2012/01/catnip-mouse.html

  39. Len Steele says:

    chickenseebear!

  40. Ron Sharcott says:

I often read Savage Chickens at work, current releases and Comics.com
My all time favourite is Torture.
    https://www.savagechickens.com/2010/01/torture.html

But if asked for just the past year it would be Escape
    https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/11/escape-2.html

Wonderful format (sticky notes) and great content. Especially the work related content that surpasses Dilbert in my opinion.

  41. Lori says:

I LOVED How to Train your Cat #4….it is dead on how my cat really acts!
I also thoroughly enjoy your other cat comics and the LOTR and Hobbit ones too.

  42. Joao says:

My all-time favourite must be this years’ “Iceberg Adventures” with Gymnopédie No 1 as a soundtrack. In some ways it reminds me of another great one, the Existential GPS.
For last year, Productivity is up (https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/07/productivity-is-up.html) was quite popular in our coffee corner at work, but not as much with corporate representatives…

  43. Joao says:

By the way, a video animation of the extended Iceberg adventures would be quite interesting (think of Phantom mountain – an instant classic!)

  44. Jordan Boye says:

My favorite was the Conspiracy Conspiracy – it’s hilariously meta.

  45. Mary Jaeger says:

Wow! How time flies when you’re having fun reading Savage Chickens! Keep them coming!

  48. AnnieA says:

I liked “In the Air” — it’s so hard to describe scents, isn’t it?

  49. Marie says:

Congratulations, nine years is truly impressive and your cartoon keeps getting funnier. My favorite is “be an artist” since I closed a soul sucking business to go back to being an artist. I printed that one and put it on my inspiration board next to a photo of a coffee drinking dog and the sloth astronaut.

  50. Nina says:

    Congrats on 9 years!
My favourite from last year would be: Alternatives

  51. SKleefeld says:

I’m going to have to say that my favorite strip from the past year was “Wookie Language.”
    https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/06/wookiee-language.html

Although I have to assume that, like many early immigrants to America, Chewbacca was, at some point when he was originally capture by the Empire, assigned a name more pronouncable by human vocal chords.

  52. Michelle says:

Congrats! What an accomplishment! Hard, so hard to pick. The Novelist from April 12th still makes me chuckle.

You are a bright light during dull days at work. Thanks for you hard work keeping us laughing.

  53. Jodi Menees says:

My favorite from the last year would be the Marketing Conference from 7/4. Congrats on 9 years and thanks for the laughs.

  54. I loved the one where the chicken tells the other that he is terrified of losing his job as much as he is terrified that he is going to keep it–I flashed back to the last bad job that I had.

  55. ann says:

my favorite, which I shared on tumblr at the time, is the Venus de Limo (aka https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/11/a-night-on-the-town.html )

Congrats Doug on 9 years! My favorite from year 9 was the Cat from Outer Space. Thank you!!!

  57. Sonj says:

Congrats on 9 years! I love all the chickens adventures, and PROD3000 is the best, but, your cat adventures strike a chord with me because it is my honest belief my cat is reading these when I am not around… its hard to decide between Goals (which I actually have hanging on my office wall) and Catnip Vision… keep up the great work!

  58. Miriam says:

Congratulations for the nine years of Savage Chickens!

My favorite comic is “Directive?” (https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/05/directive.html), which I think is very creative and funny n_n

  59. Amanda says:

My favorite is “how to annoy a runner.”

  60. Jari says:

It’s really difficult to pick just one [you’re the ‘Lay’s Potato Chip’ of cartoons], but I’m going with ‘Why do cat’s purr’ [https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/10/why-do-cats-purr.html]

  61. Diana says:

A most difficult choice: ONE favorite? I’ve narrowed it to 2: First, “Piano Teacher Hell,” which you so kindly made for my birthday and it is SO lovely! But the very first Savage Chickens I ever saw still delights me every time I see it (which is often, because it’s on my desk): “Chicken Poetry Reading.” SO deep!

  62. WitchArachne says:

I can’t believe it’s been that long! It makes me feel a little old, really.
I’ve had so many favourites over the years but the one I laughed the most at this year was the one about Nitroglycerin Jenga.
Every so often I remember it randomly in the middle of the day and have to either spend 20 minutes trying to stifle my giggling, or spend 20 minutes loudly giggling with the newest person I’ve gotten to share the comic with.

  63. Bubu says:

Wow, 9 years? We send congratulations all the way from Czech republic 🙂
I’d love to pick at least 10 favorites from 2013, but the very best for me was “Easily Amused”. The second favorite but not-so-kitty-cute was “Drinking problem” 🙂

  64. Ill Bill says:

Congratulations on nine great years Doug!!! My favorite from this past year is “How To Train Your Cat 4”. Looking forward to another great year of Savage Chickens!!!

  65. Jean-Francois says:

    Félicitations ! Congratulations!
My favorite one is a comic that features my own cat !! https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/10/why-do-cats-purr.html.
    Thanks for all the fun!

  66. Florent says:

I published the “reason for celebration” during this week’s seminar because it is awesome and I was bored <3

    Congrat for the good work

  67. Doug–9 years? Wow! Congratulations. I’m just a blog baby compared to you. 😉

It’s hard to choose my favorite from this year, so I’m going to choose the most recent one that made me snort out loud–the Marie Antoinette “Slap Chop” one a couple of days ago. Hil-ar-i-ous.

  68. Michel says:

Congrats on 9 years now. I have my email abo since the beginning and I really wonder how you can manage to produce a smile on my face every work-day morning. Whithout the Chickens and my mourning coffee, I would have not been able to succeed my PhD here in Germany. Thanks for that!
One of my favorite last chicken of the 8th year was “Still” since I am in the same situation than the Chicken…

  69. Shay Bresnan says:

My favorite was Management Strategies, because it was dedicated to me!! My second favorite was Be an Artist!

  70. Iain Bayley says:

    Hi Doug.

These are the highlight of my morning. My favourites are the Chewy ones, and my favourite from the last year is the hair loss one on April 17th. Poor Chewie looks so depressed!

    Thanks for all the fun!

    Iain.

  71. Jeff S. says:

Congratulations on your 9th anniversary! Even though I don’t have a cat, I love the cat comics, with How To Train Your Cat #4 being my favorite one of the past year. Here’s to 9 more years!

  72. Christin says:

I’m addicted to Savage Chickens! There are so many wonderful ones, but my favorite of all is the Be an Artist comic. I have it posted at home and at work to inspire me! There’s a reason it is number one on the top ten… it reaches people! It is funny and meaningful, too. Savage Chickens forever!!!

  73. Tim Canny says:

Although I’m a big Timmy Tofu fan but as a fan of classic children’s books I’ve got to say my favorite is Macbeth https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/04/macbeth.html. It is the perfect adaptation of “Are You My Mother” to Shakespeare. Also, I really like the little Nessie monster in the background of the first panel. Congrats on 9 years of funny!

  74. Kate says:

I love all of the cat comics, but “Three Little Words” perfectly describes my relationship’s descent from normal language to zip zop zonkle glorp.

    https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/02/three-little-words.html

  75. Radu Mihai says:

I just love this one with the Chocolate Bunny, it’s like an episode of The Outer Limits TV series. 🙂

    https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/03/chocolate-bunny.html

  76. Sam says:

Nine lovely years of smart funny humor! As a Costume Designer and cat guardian, I adore the Shakespeare comics. And how to teach a cat is wickedly funny. Thanks for brightening my day!

P.S. would love to win the book

    https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/05/sleepy-cat.html

  78. Nuni says:

    Happy Ninth! 😀
I think the one I liked best this year was A Night on the Town. It still makes me laugh whenever I remember it!
Your comics are the equivalent to a morning cup of coffee for my browser, can’t start the day without it!

  79. Jo-Anne Douglas says:

I like all the work-related ones and I send them to my former co-workers who still work at a place EXACTLY like the workplace in your cartoons. They need something to cheer them up!

  80. John says:

Congrats on your 9 years accomplishment. You’ve been entertaining many! I pick
“Management Strategy”, mostly because the croc turns on the manager 🙂 lol and because meetings would be way more interesting! https://www.savagechickens.com/2013/11/management-strategy.html

  81. Karen says:

9 years! Excellent. I love cat adventures and I also love robot boss. I can’t choose my favorite one between them

    Hey, Doug!
[insert funny opening statement that somehow guilts you into letting me win (especially since it’s my birthday on the third…)]

Also, I’m a huge Whovian. The sound I made when I saw Enemy of the Daleks was probably pretty entertaining for everyone near me. I have to choose that one.

Happy Anniversary, and Tom Baker ftw

  85. Tom M says:

My favorite comic is any comic featuring the robot boss wielding an Escape-From-New-York nail-bludgeon. Nobody tells you how hard it is to NOT be an artist. Sooooo true. I’ve been teaching English classes as a TA for 6 years, and LORD is it EXHAUSTING!!!!

  86. Bob P. says:

My favorite cartoon from last year was the one where one chicken looking into the mirror says something like “I’m getting better looking as I get older” The other chicken says “Maybe you’re just getting used to looking at your face.” I don’t know but it just caught me right.
Keep drawing cause you make my day.

  87. Aliz says:

How to train your cat 5 was my most recent favourite! <3

  88. Melissa says:

  89. Melissa Alexandra says:

Congratulations on the 9 years of sharing your work with us! A hug from Peru!

Congrats, Chicken King! Your creations are a daily joy to us. “How to Train Your Cat #4” was our most-shared favorite. “This is YOU” or “This is ME” were my e-mail subject lines. Every office cubicle and fridge door must have collections of your cat-tastic insights. Thank you for sharing!
